Online Casino Wins Bid For Ukulele

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Popular online gambling sites are famous for their outlandish style, but one particular site loves to go a little overboard at the auctions. This time the popular online gambling site won a ukulele autographed by Warren Buffet, the renowned billionaire famous for his investing discipline.

A spokesperson for the popular online gambling site confirmed the $11,211.11 bid for the white ukulele, signed by the man in charge of the insurance and investment company Berkshire Hathaway, based in Omaha.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Omaha Children’s Hospital, a part of the Children’s Miracle Network.

Like similar purchases made by the same popular online gambling site, this signed ukulele will go on tour around the United States and Canada in a “traveling museum.”

The online casino site won the E-Bay auction only seven seconds before the auction closed. Before closing time on Thursday the winning bid stood at $11,111.11, only $100 less than the online casino’s winning bid.

“Warren Buffet is quite the icon for many, many people,” said online casino spokesperson, Jeff Kay. “He is involved in many charities, and to have our name even associated with him is quite an honor.”

Though Buffet has not yet returned any phone calls about the purchase, the 75 year old businessman is a known ukulele player, and has received a copy of the auctioned ukulele as a keepsake. The auctioned ukulele was created in part by International Dairy Queen, a unit of Berkshire.

Sadly for Donald Trump, Buffet is the second richest person, not in the United States, but throughout the world. Second only to Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Buffet was recently reported by Forbes Magazine to be worth an estimated $42 billion.

The signed ukulele did not bring in the expected amount. While still please with the winning bid prise, the ukulele did fetch less than Buffet’s last E-Bay auction. Last year Buffet raised $351,100 for the Glide Foundation by auctioning off lunches. The Glide Foundation is a San Francisco non-profit group that provides programs for the hungry, poor and homeless.

However the ukulele did catch a better prise than the copy of The Intelligent Investor, by Benjamin Graham. The book was signed by Buffet and Charlie Munger, Berkshire’s second in command. The book opened with an asking opening bid of $7,500 but failed to attract even a single bid before the auctions closing.
